how this bronze stag is made
This bronze stag is made using the ‘lost wax’ casting process; a traditional method for casting metal that dates back to 3000 BC. The process to make the bronze stag takes several weeks. It starts with a wax model from which several investment moulds are created. Large statues like this stag are usually made from several different moulds and the pieces are welded together once cast. It is finished using a hot patina creating a rich liver brown colour. Like all large bronze statues cast using the ‘lost wax’ process, the pieces are hollow and normally around 5mm in thickness.
Bronze is a metal alloy with high copper content. It is resistant to corrosion, extremely hardy and very tough. If cared for properly it will stand the test of time in different weather conditions. Depending on its position and the degree to which it is exposed to the elements, the colour of your bronze statue may change slightly over time. This is perfectly normal for bronze as it oxidizes when exposed to air or other chemicals. You can however maintain its original appearance with minimal effort. We recommend cleaning and waxing statues once or twice a year.
This stag is an incredible investment piece that’s resistant to rust and frost. It’s easy to maintain; just clean and wax once or twice a year. Overall, this impressive garden statue creates a wonderful sense of theatre and drama to be enjoyed for many decades to come.
